Here in Rolling Meadows, Illinois we just got over a 3 day snow storm, at least I hope it is over. It started on New Year’s Eve and after all was said and done we ended up with over a foot of snow. Here are the 10 things I liked best about it.
#10 My Blanket

I love curling up in a blanket on the sofa after being out in the cold. There is just something so comforting about it. No matter what else is happening in your life you can feel safe and protected in a blanket. Like when I was little and woke up from a bad dream, terrified that the “bad guy” would get me, I would pull my blanket over my head and soon I was invisible. The bad guy can’t find you under a blanket.
#9 Disappearing Christmas Cookie Calories

I ate so many Christmas cookies this year I had to declare myself a cookie-holic but I didn’t have to go to the gym to work off all those calories. I got plenty of cardio and weight training right here at home. All I had to do was shovel the driveway…. and do about 10 reps of that because it kept snowing and snowing. So I’m hoping that all those cookie calories are gone now.
#8 The “No Water” “No Care” Garden

I didn’t have to pull weeds, cultivate, or water my snow garden at all. I also didn’t have to pull any Japanese beetles off of my roses. It is totally care free while being pretty to look at.
#7 Pine Trees

I love the look of snow on a beautiful green pine tree. I think it is so awesome that they stay green in the winter. When everything is all brown, dead and blah looking, there is the stately pine with its thick, lively branches reminding you that there is life and there will be green and other colors again. The snow just adds something and makes the trees look like they are all dressed up for something important.
#6 Bird Bath to Bird Snow Cone

How cool is that? I can’t believe the birds didn’t jump at the chance to try it.
#5 So Much Easier to Cross the Busy Street

Because the roads were so bad there was hardly anyone out and that made it a breeze to get across the busy street when I went for my walk. Usually I’m standing there for quite a long time but not during the 2013-14 snow storm.
#4 Snowball Fight With a Tree

I know what you’re thinking but it really happened. I was walking across the street and a ball of snow from the tree above me came down and went “splat” right by me. I looked up and said,“You missed.”
I thought about throwing a snowball back at it but it had plenty of ammo and way more arms (branches) than I had. I would have lost. Then some more came crashing down and I got away as fast as I could.
#3 Blazing A Trail

I like to clear a path for the next person walking down the sidewalk so where it wasn’t shoveled I blazed a trail through. I could have walked in the street but that is dangerous. Plus it makes me feel like I’m some brave explorer, going where no woman has gone before. I also leave a trail behind to make it easier for someone else to share the experience.
#2 Hot Cocoa

Need I say more? Chocolate in drink form, all warm and frothy, turning your insides all toasty. There just is no better time to enjoy it than after spending time out in the cold snow. I mean you wouldn’t want to drink it poolside or on the beach, would you?
#1 Knowing the Sun Will Shine Again

The best part of this 3-day snow storm was when the sun came back out again today. It was so wonderful to see it shining on the snow and up in the sky. I sure did miss it. Soon it will get hot enough to melt all this snow and we will be complaining how hot it is outside. I can’t wait.
Well that is it, 10 things I liked about this snow storm. There were things I didn’t like such as worrying about my kids driving in it to and from work and feeling bad for all the snow removal crews having to work through the holidays. Since my New Years resolution is to try & be more positive by looking for the good in all things, I decided to not focus on my fears & worries and see the beauty in it. I think I did pretty good.
I’m just blowing bubbles!
